THHHHHHE YANKEES WIN!!! Late Rally Capped By Posada
The Yankees trailed 9-4 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning in the Bronx Friday night. The Yankees put up a 4 spot in the 8th to come within one run. In the bottom of the 9th Mark Teixeira led off with a walk. Hideki Matsui lined a base hit to left to put the tying run in scoring position and the winning run on first base. That brought up the Yankees hottest hitter Robinson Cano who ripped a line drive up the middle to load the bases. Jorge Posada then drove a 3-2 fastball off Angels closer Brian Fuentes into left center to plate 2 and cap off a sensational comeback victory. This is the type of win that can really get a ball club on a roll. This Yanks fan is excited as hell about this one. I have Sinatra playing, and a cold Budweiser in my hand savoring this one. Start spreading the news…
Yankees Bullpen Implodes in Stadium Opener
That stench you smell coming from the Bronx is from the Yanks bullpen and third baseman. After playing the Indians to a 1-1 tie through 6 innings the bullpen allowed 9 runs in the top of the 7th including the first grand slam in the new Stadium. The day started with much fan fare, hoopla, a beautiful day, and a fly over. C.C. Sabathia recorded the first Yankee Stadium strike out in the first inning but clearly did not have his best stuff today. Sabathia did give his team a chance to win working out of several jams and allowing just one run in 5 and 2/3 innings pitched. C.C. only allowed 5 hits and struck out 4 but walked 5 Indians. Jorge Posada hit the first Yankee Stadium home run for the Bombers in the 5th inning off reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee. The solo shot tied the game at 1-1. However, the bull pen stunk up the show in the 7th inning. Jose Veras and Damaso Marte combined to allow 9 runs on 5 hits 2 of which were home runs and 2 walks. That blew the game wide open at 10-1 and spoiled the party. The Bombers will go at it again tomorrow afternoon and will try to get their first home win of the season. Joba Chamberlain (0-0) will make his second start of the season as he goes up against Anthony Reyes (0-1). Lets hope tomorrow goes a little better. One last note…How long are we going to have to watch Cody Ransom stink it up at the plate? after another 0 for 5 performance today Ranson is now hitting just .100 for the season with just 3 hits. Ransom looked flat out lost at times today at the plate. He was taking half swings and looked like he had no business facing Major League pitching. I heard A-Rod is ahead of schedule. I sure hope so!!!
Yankees Win 2nd Straight, Andy Pitches a Gem
Out of respect for the tragic death of Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart I did not post on yesterdays game. So here goes…the first two days of the season were a complete disaster for Yankees starting pitching. CC and Wang went a combined 0-2, 8 IP, allowing 17 hits, 13 runs, 8 walks, and striking out a big fat zero with a combined ERA of 14.62. The second two games by free agent signing A.J. Burnett and former ace Andy Pettitte were a combined 12 1/3 IP, 10 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 12 K’s with a combined ERA of 2.19. A.J. got plenty of run support earning his first win in pinstripes. The Bombers crushed O’s pitching connecting for 11 runs on 13 hits and 3 home runs. Mark Teixeira hit his first Yankees home run and Nick Swisher continued his hot start with a 3 for 5 performance including a 2 run bomb. The Yanks travelled to Kansas City for their first meeting with the Royals of the season today. In a game with an unusually large strike zone that featured a combined 21 K’s, the Yanks led by a strong performance by Andy Pettitte and 2 RBI’s by Jorge Posada won 4-1. Yankees pitching held the Royals to just 4 hits. Yanks 2B Robinson Cano continued his torrid start going 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored to raise his average to .571 for the year. All in all I think the last two games are the Yankees we expected to see out of the gate. C.C. Sabathia will look to rebound tomorrow night from a lackluster Opening Day start as he will go up against Horacio Ramirez. Ramirez is 39-33 with a 4.59 career ERA and has started 104 games. The Yankees are off and running lets continue the road trip with another couple of wins!!!
Spring Training has Arrived!
I can smell the hot dogs and taste the beer. With the first day of pitchers and catchers reporting for many teams today, spring training has arrived and the countdown to opening day has arrived. The Yankees will hit Tampa on Friday and start workouts on Saturday. Hope and anticipation will be running rampant at Yankees camp as well as the lingering cloud from the A-Rod bomb that is still dominating the sports news. Saturday will mark the beginning of the CC era and hopefully the beginning of what should be a dominant Pin Stripe rotation this year. Can the Yanks get over the hump and return to the post season this year? Can they return to post season form if they do get there? Will this be the beginning of the a new Yankees dynasty? Bombers additions CC, AJ, and Tex will have a lot to say about that. As will A-Rod who will be out to prove he can do it just as well or better clean as he did during the juiced Texas years. How will Tex handle the pressure of hitting in the Bronx? Will he handle it better than A-Rod did his first season in New York? Can AJ stay healthy and earn all those benjamins? What will it be like for Jeter to face the Yanks in a spring training game playing for Team USA? Will Jorge be able to play signifigant games behind the plate? Will the Yanks make a move with Swish or Nady before Opening Day? There are many burning questions set to be answered this spring and season for the Bombers. But for now buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks, get me a jumbo dog (Chicago Style), and get me an extra large Budweiser to wash it down with…BASEBALL IS BACK!!!
