What the Wang is Happening in the Bronx?

After another miserable outing on Saturday in which Wang gave up 8 runs on 8 hits and didn’t get out of the 2nd inning for the second straight game Wangs ERA now sits at a ridiculous 34.50.  He is 0-3 and has pitched just 6 innings in 3 starts allowing 23 runs and 23 hits.  To make matters worse, Wang is out of options so the Yanks can’t send him to the minors to figure things out.  What I have figured out is that Wang’s stuff absolutely stinks and is getting hit from the Bronx to LA in every outing.  His next scheduled start is Friday night at Fenway.  One would have to think that the Yanks will skip his start in the rotation with an off day on Thursday.  Something has to give here.  Not being able to get through the 2nd two games in a row is extremely taxing on the bullpen.  There is not much more to say about that stinker.  Lets hope the Yanks can even the series in the Bronx this afternoon.  A.J. Burnett will take the ball against former Yanks bust Carl Pavano who drew the most boos on opening day.  A.J. has been sharp in his first season in pin stripes going 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA.  Pavano is 0-2 with a 16.71 ERA.  Lets hope Pavano pitches like he did with the Yanks today and we could have a reverse of yesterdays pathetic game.  Go Yanks!!!

Bombers Crank 5 Bombs to Even Series With Tribe

Starting pitching once again was not very spectacular.  Joba Chamberlain went only 4 and 2/3 giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and walking 5.  Walks seem to be the theme for Yankees starting pitching so far in 2009.  The Yanks were able to overcome the weak effort with 5 home runs.  Damon, Teixeira, Cabrera, Cano, and Jeter all hit solo shots and another run scored on a throwing error to help the Bombers edge the Tribe 6-5 and get their first win at the new Stadium.  Jeter continued his display of clutch hitting in 2009 by putting the Yanks ahead for good with an 8th inning home run to right field off Jensen Lewis.  Mariano Rivera nailed it down in the 9th to earn his 3rd save of the season.  Chien-Ming Wang will take the ball for the Yankees today and hope to improve on his 0-2 start and robust 28.93 ERA.  Wang has been rocked in his first two starts and didn’t get out of the 2nd inning against Tampa.  Fausto Carmona will take an 0-2 start and 9.00 ERA to the mound for the Tribe.  This looks to be an offensive type day as neither pitcher has started out well at all.  Lets hope for some more Yankee long balls today and as always Go Yanks!!!

Yanks take 2 in Tampa, Head home for Stadium Opener

After a miserable performance in game 1 of the series in Tampa that saw Wang get absolutely shelled and the Yanks fall 15-5, the Yanks rebounded nicely to take the second two games and head home to the Bronx 5-4.  Captain Jeter is heating up as he went 5 for 9 with 4 RBI and a game winning double in the top of the 9th plating Cody Ransom and securing a 4-3 win for the Bombers in the series finale in Tampa.  The Yanks took 2 of 3 from the defending American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays.  The Yanks head home now for a 7 game home stand against the Indians and A’s to open the new Yankee Stadium.  C.C. Sabathia will be on the hill for the Bombers in the first regular season game to be played at the new Stadium.  He will be up against Indians ace Cliff Lee who has been rocked so far in ’09 giving up 11 runs on 17 hits in just 10 innings pitched with a robust ERA of 9.90.  The Yanks will have to bring their A game as Lee the 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner is not likely to get beat up all year.  The Indians come into todays game with a 2-7 record.  I like the Yanks chances in front of the home fans today.  This Stadium is awesome and I can’t wait to get to a game there!  Go Yanks!

Yankees Win 2nd Straight, Andy Pitches a Gem

Out of respect for the tragic death of Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart I did not post on yesterdays game.  So here goes…the first two days of the season were a complete disaster for Yankees starting pitching.  CC and Wang went a combined 0-2, 8 IP, allowing 17 hits, 13 runs, 8 walks, and striking out a big fat zero with a combined ERA of 14.62.  The second two games by free agent signing A.J. Burnett and former ace Andy Pettitte were a combined 12 1/3 IP, 10 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 12 K’s with a combined ERA of 2.19.  A.J. got plenty of run support earning his first win in pinstripes.  The Bombers crushed O’s pitching connecting for 11 runs on 13 hits and 3 home runs.  Mark Teixeira hit his first Yankees home run and Nick Swisher continued his hot start with a 3 for 5 performance including a 2 run bomb.  The Yanks travelled to Kansas City for their first meeting with the Royals of the season today.  In a game with an unusually large strike zone that featured a combined 21 K’s, the Yanks led by a strong performance by Andy Pettitte and 2 RBI’s by Jorge Posada won 4-1.  Yankees pitching held the Royals to just 4 hits.  Yanks 2B Robinson Cano continued his torrid start going 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored to raise his average to .571 for the year.  All in all I think the last two games are the Yankees we expected to see out of the gate.  C.C. Sabathia will look to rebound tomorrow night from a lackluster Opening Day start as he will go up against Horacio Ramirez.  Ramirez is 39-33 with a 4.59 career ERA and has started 104 games.  The Yankees are off and running lets continue the road trip with another couple of wins!!!

Yanks Pitching Rocked, CC and Tex fizzle in Yanks Debut

Opening Day is here and Yanks pitching looks a lot like last year.  CC Sabathia is off to a shaky start as the Yanks new ace as he allowed 6 runs on 8 hits walking 5 and striking out 0 in 4 1/3 innings of work.  The bullpen did not fare much better against O’s hitters. Allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and walking 3.  Off season acquisition Mark Teixeira went 0-4 with a walk and 5 left on base including a weak ground out with 2 outs in the top of the 8th with the tying run on 3rd base.  The Yanks then proceeded to give up 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th which was fueled by a controversial home run where a fan seemed to knock the ball away from Johnny Damon a la the 1996 ALCS.  My only question is if baseball is going to have replay why was it not used in this case?  One bright spot for the Yanks today was Jeter in the leadoff role.  Jeter went 3 for 5 and Damon followed him going 2 for 3.  If they can continue to set the table for Tex like that all year one would think good things will happen.  The Yanks have an off day tomorrow and will play Wednesday night in Baltimore where Chien-Ming Wang will be on the hill for the Bombers while Koji Uehara will make his Major League debut for the O’s.  Wang was roughed up in his last few spring outings.  Lets hope the Bombers can jump on Uehara early and welcome him to the majors.

Can we play baseball already???

A-Rod admitted he used steroids which is more information than most other suspects in the steroid scandal have been willing to do.  The story keeps dominating the headlines day after day after day.  Can we just move on and play ball already?  Unfortunately that will be hard to do this year for A-Rod and company.  The media will not let this die and will continue to dissect each and every angle of this story.  Saw a report on ESPN News a short while ago saying that the juice A-Rod’s cousin supposedly injected A-Rod with and supposedly obtained from a pharmacy in the Dominican wasn’t even available in pharmacies in the Dominican Republic during 2001-03.  This is my point exactly each and every thing that comes out about this just will add more speculation and a new twist to the story.  I hope A-Rod sticks to his word and doesn’t comment any further each and every time the media tries to beat this dead horse over and over and over.  This is the deadest horse I have ever seen.  Unfortunately, until games start to be played and or this list of 103 other names hits the news, this is the story for the media to drool over day after day after day.  I am straight up tired of hearing about it.  I want to hear about how Tex is hitting the ball and how CC, AJ, Wang, Pettitte, and Joba are throwing the ball.  I want to hear about why this team is going to beat the Sox and the Rays and win the AL East.  I want to smell hot dogs and wash them down with a cold Budweiser.  I want to hear anything but A-Rod and steroids.  I want to hear about the Bombers putting up another W.  And I really want to hear some Sinatra playing “start spreading the news” when the Yankees win their 27th World Series trophy this year.  Go Yankees and let the dead horse be dead already.  Play Ball!!!
